Park on Fremont

May 2nd, 2013 by Erik Chudy

nice presentationI really love everything that’s going on around East Fremont; with all of the new bars and restaurants the scene is really coming together. But along with all those new venues comes droves of hipsters almost as intolerable to me as the droves of tourists on the Strip, so I tend to visit this area during the day for lunch and weeknights. My impatience aside, the downtown area needs great food to go with its great bars, so I was very excited to hear that the new Park on Fremont was going to be serving more than just snacks. Billed as a gastro-pub, this recently abused word suggests a fancy array of snacks and main dishes to go along with a large drink menu. But can this suggestion truly become a reality? continue reading »

D Grill

March 11th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

weird cheeseNow that my office is within walking distance of downtown, I could feasibly tackle every casino on Fremont St, although I’m not sure that’s entirely necessary.  Triple George was certainly worth the review, but I’ve questioned the burger worthy choices of everywhere else. Binion’s Café has also come up in the past few weeks, but that will be saved for another week. The D Las Vegas opened fairly recently, along with its D Grill, which several people have mentioned for its burger. I was skeptical, but once it comes up in conversation I must educate myself on any requested burger in town so off I went. continue reading »

Public House (Luxor)

September 24th, 2012 by Erik Chudy

looks a bit plainHow often do two different restaurants open with the same name in the same city? I guess this is a stupid question because I really don’t care about the answer, but it surely creates some confusion. This recently happened with the opening of Public House at the Luxor. Somehow sharing the same name as the expensive but superior Public House at the Venetian, the one at the Luxor opened with minimal fanfare a couple weeks ago. Does it hold up as well as the fancy Gastropub down the street? continue reading »

Fuddruckers

August 27th, 2012 by Erik Chudy

cafeteria meal?I’ve had more than a few people recommend Fuddruckers since I’ve started my blog, but I somehow always forget about it when I’m trying to figure out where to eat. When craving for a burger the other day my girlfriend mentioned it and it sounded like a good idea at the time. This review could very well mark the first time that I planned a revisit before I even left the building, and not because it was so good I knew I had to go back for more. Why did that happen? continue reading »

Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ

June 21st, 2012 by Erik Chudy

big burgerThe other day I had a craving for a good pulled pork sandwich, which isn’t necessarily a good thing considering there aren’t many options in town. Luckily I work near Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ which satisfied my craving last time so I headed there for lunch. But while sitting at the bar I decided that I needed to write a burger review this week and I’ve had the same pulled pork sandwich the last 3 times I’ve been there, so I caved and did what I always do: ordered a burger. I figured it couldn’t be all that bad, I mean, they should know a thing or two about meat right? continue reading »

American Burger Works (ABX)

June 14th, 2012 by Erik Chudy

boring!I tend to kill the surprise and hesitate to write any sort of lengthy review when I eat a burger that sucks, and this is probably going to be no exception. Finding myself on the south end of the strip with an hour to kill in between meetings the other day, I went to my phone to check for anything nearby that might be new and different. Sadly the only thing close by was American Burger Works at the lovely Excalibur, as I had been to pretty much everything else directly around me. No cliffhanger here, but read on if you want to know why it sucked so badly. continue reading »

Bottles & Burgers (CLOSED)

January 26th, 2012 by Erik Chudy

nice presentation, empty plateTivoli Village opened several months ago in Summerlin, providing an even yuppier version of Town Square for the folks living in the western part of our fair city. I really had no desire to go there as I hate shopping, but the recently opened Bottles & Burgers restaurant finally gave me a reason to do so. The name has plenty of promise, as I am quite the fan of the assumed liquids they’re referring to in those bottles, and of course there’s that whole burger thing. A friend went the first week they were open and wasn’t impressed, but we weren’t sure how much of that was due to it being a new restaurant versus if they just weren’t delivering. After my visit I would have to agree with the latter. continue reading »
