La Comida

May 15th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

gooey bunContinuing the theme of restaurants on East Fremont, today’s review comes to you via the just-opened La Comida, the Mexican joint from Michael Morton around the corner from Commonwealth, Le Thai and all the other hipster hot-spots in the area. I heard early on that they were going to have a burger on their menu, so the anticipation was there long before the restaurant opened. Normally I wouldn’t jump on a restaurant within their first week of opening, let alone a Mexican restaurant that also happens to have a burger on their menu, so this was a huge risk for failure. Not being one to ever turn down any sort of burger meal, risk or not, I bravely ventured in here to give their hamburguesa a shot. How did it fare? continue reading »

Bar + Bistro

February 11th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

colorfulNow that my office is near the downtown area I have a whole new set of restaurants at my disposal. Starting with the closest in my vicinity I first headed over to Bar + Bistro. I’ve had ok meals here in the past, although I’ve found the service iffy and prices a bit high, but when I was contacted by Chef Beni Velasquez to come try their burger I was intrigued because I hadn’t yet noticed it on their menu. He promised me a great burger with three different meats, so that couldn’t be bad right? continue reading »

Gordon Ramsay BurGR

January 7th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

that's a good looking burger! You’d think that after a couple years of eating burgers one would run out of places to go in a small-ish city like Las Vegas, yet my to-do list is constantly growing with places I’ve never heard of. And now along comes celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay with not one but three new restaurants in the past several months, including BurGR at the Planet Hollywood. There has been much hype about all of his new locations, especially Gordon Ramsay Steak at the Paris which supposedly has a 3 month backup for reservations, so the food must be good right? This made my expectations very high for one of his restaurants devoted solely to my favorite meal. But could it possibly deliver? continue reading »

Tacos & Tequila

December 12th, 2012 by Erik Chudy

where's my fries?

I hate straying from my always growing burger to-do list, but I was recently out at lunch with some contractors and there happened to be a burger lunch special at the Mexican restaurant we were eating at so I was peer pressured into it. I try to plan my burger meals around my work schedule or where I’ll be during parts of the week, so I figured walking into Tacos & Tequila at the Luxor I’d be able to avoid an unplanned burger and mess up my plans later in the week. Other than the Double Del at Del Taco, I can’t say I’ve had many burgers at Mexican restaurants so I really wasn’t expecting much, but couldn’t say no to the audience at my table that wanted to witness a burger review in the making. Were they able to witness anything decent? continue reading »

Biscuits 2 Burgers

December 3rd, 2012 by Erik Chudy

that's a lot of lettuce! After discovering that Carlos’ Kitchen closed the day before I got there, I scrambled to find somewhere else close by to get a burger recently. I remembered that a workout friend told me about a new place near our gym called Biscuits 2 Burgers so I thought I’d seek it out. They pretty much don’t exist online still; no official website, no Yelp page, so I started driving west on Tropicana until I found it. Despite all of this, was my experience encouraging enough to keep this place around? continue reading »

Upper Deck Grill and Sports Lounge

November 26th, 2012 by Erik Chudy

another plain setupThere are many best of burger lists popping up on Yelp and other sites around town, and everyone is trying to interject their secret unknown spot to be included on the list. That’s how I came across Upper Deck Grill and Sports Lounge, and it seems like people are really starting to fetch for a unique location to be included. I love places like the Dispensary Lounge, Badger Café and other off-strip locations, and get a little hesitant when they start entering tourist areas, so you can imagine my hesitation with walking into a golf center. continue reading »

Crown & Anchor British Pub

October 19th, 2012 by Erik Chudy

looks kinda plainI’ve heard about it for years, but I somehow never made it to the Crown & Anchor British Pub until a couple weeks ago. It’s always high on a lot my friend’s lists of dive bars along with Frankie’s Tiki Room, the Double Down, etc, but those recommendations are typically more for drinks and overall ambiance than food. This is why I was particularly skeptical about this one, even with a few friends swearing by it. Needless to say, I ate it and was more than surprised. continue reading »
