Carson Kitchen

September 15th, 2016 by Erik Chudy

burger!Greetings loyal readers! It’s been quite some time since I’ve personally written a burger review, but I’m back to tease you with a post or two for your (hopeful) enjoyment. First up is Carson Kitchen; a newer addition to our fair city located in the Fremont Street area of town. They feature an odd website, some fun small plates and of course a burger. Many friends have mentioned this burger to me in recent months, so I had high expectations. Did it deliver? continue reading »

A Reason to Read Another Bachi Review

April 16th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

There have been only a small handful of restaurants that I actually granted a revisit for one reason or another, despite many requests following some negative reviews over the years. In some cases, like Honey Salt, my first visit was only weeks into their opening so I felt it was necessary after so many accolades for me to come back and see how they tweaked things to run more smoothly. Another well-deserved restaurant was Bachi Burger; my initial review was one of the first on this blog so I felt a better-documented revisit was in order after a while. Of all the places I’ve gone to for repeat meals, none have impressed me as much as Bachi so I feel it’s time for one more review. You’re probably asking yourself why you need to read yet another review about them, but I have my reasons. continue reading »

MTO Café

April 9th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

looks goodIn my last review, I declared the burger at Pizza Rock the best in the downtown area, although I had not yet eaten all of them in the vicinity. I’ve eaten almost all of the notable burgers along Fremont St and the surrounding areas, but haven’t yet made my way over to MTO Café until now. MTO is a newer restaurant serving an area of downtown that doesn’t have much of a selection. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about this place both online and through some fans, so was this an unfair, premature statement? continue reading »

Pizza Rock

March 26th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

creamyEither I’m getting lucky or some restaurants are just stepping up their game; the last few reviews I’ve posted have all been from extremely positive experiences. Some people claim I’m a bit too critical, but that’s what I’m here for. And besides, I’ve reviewed over 120 burgers in Vegas now so I have a few to reference. This next one comes from a new pizza joint that opened a few months ago called Pizza Rock. I’ve avoided a few reviews such as this in the past because I always assume a restaurant that has one main focus surely can’t make a decent burger, but after my last review that may no longer be the case. If one Italian-focused restaurant produced a fantastic burger, can a second? continue reading »

Al’s Beef

February 12th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

messy burger!Chalking this review up to a matter of convenience and location, I recently found myself on the West side of Sahara near the newly-opened Al’s Beef and decided to give it a shot. A couple weeks ago a friend took me to Braddah’s next door, and someone mentioned Al’s after seeing my check-in. I don’t think I would have bothered coming here, but after reading about the opening on Eater and then having it suggested by a reader I figured I might as well. Besides, a restaurant that has the word ‘beef’ in its name must serve a decent burger? continue reading »

Hennessey’s Tavern

January 8th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

looks okThis week I’m going to skip covering some of the newly-opened restaurants in town to deal with another place that boldly advertises its burger as “voted best burger in Las Vegas” on a colorful banner right on the corner of Fremont Street and Las Vegas Blvd. I’m definitely not aware of everything going on in town burger-wise, but by being the self-titled ‘burger guy’ for Vegas I’m fairly aware of most contests that would elect such a title. So when my coworker pointed out one day that Hennessey’s Tavern had such a banner on their patio, I just had to look into this. I’ve had a couple folks suggest their burgers over the years, but it just hasn’t been a priority with so many more popular and generally accepted places to try. But being a glutton for punishment and fulfilling my self-induced duties, I headed over to see if they could offer a contender for the best burger in town. continue reading »

Stewart + Ogden

January 2nd, 2014 by Erik Chudy

what's with the bun?Happy New Year! As I said in my previous review, several restaurants have opened recently with burgers potentially worth writing about, so I’m trying to do my best to get to all of them in the next few weeks. This next one comes from the newly reopened and rebranded Downtown Grand, which added a little café called Stewart + Ogden. I’ve always been a big fan of the downtown area, but with all its hype in the past year or two I feel like there is still a lack of decent restaurants. The Grand’s simple, yet cool remodel brought a great new place for people to hang out on 3rd Street next to an old favorite of mine, but did they also bring a good new place to eat? continue reading »
