The Burger Week From Hell

Boston Burger Blog’s visit to Vegas, or what I’d like to call ‘The Burger Week from Hell’. Here’s a little story I’d like to tell you, a story that actually spawned this very site.  My brother, the creator and writer of the Boston Burger Blog decided to visit last December for a few days. As the trip neared, we wanted to nail down what meals we would be eating during his stay, or more importantly, what burger joints we needed to try. He was going to be here for about 5 full days, but the list was already around 15 locations and didn’t leave any room for any other types of food we might want. During these discussions we quickly realized that this was about to become a challenge to see which one of us could actually consume burgers for the entire 5 days he would be here.

This was going to require some special planning in order to group them by location and anything else we wanted to sight see and accomplish during that time. Because he was arriving the night before Christmas, it was going to slightly complicate things because as we soon realized, even in Vegas most places close early the night before and open late the day of.

To start this adventure off without many options, he didn’t land until almost midnight.  This left us going to a Fatburger inside a casino. While you will not find many chains on either of our sites, this is regional enough that we allowed it to be consumed on this quest. The next morning on Christmas day was equally challenging, we wanted a better burger for breakfast but a lot of places were not open yet at 10am. Lucky for us, Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay was, and that’s where we ended up.  Later that afternoon we had our only outside plans of the whole trip, which were to go to a friend’s house for a normal Christmas dinner. Feeling like this might put us behind schedule and still with full bellies, we went out to get another burger at Holstein’s in the Cosmopolitan around 11pm. With 3 burgers consumed in the first 24 hours, we were still on track.

What followed over the next few days was a hectic mess of  burgers, stomach aches and bloating. In total over the 5 days, we ate at Fatburger, Burger Bar, Holstein’s, Create, Smashburger, Slidin’ Thru, KGB, BLT, Bradley Ogden, In-N-Out, and Bachi Burger. At one point through all of this, we both had nothing but a burger, fries and drink for 4 straight meals. Let me just say that I probably gained a few pounds during this visit, and neither of us felt very good about ourselves. But, this adventure did lead to a great outcome, and I’m not referring to a trip to the toilet or our night of Four Lokos…

Burger Boy’s initial intent was to write a feature article about burgers in Vegas for his site, but we quickly realized that with my equal love for burgers, and the existence of a well-established brand meant that I should just launch my own site and continue the quest for a good burger in my fair city.  It was a no brainer, we had already done 11 burgers that I could instantly use for the creation of my site, and it would give me a valid excuse to never completely diet. And there you have it. Gluttony breeds creation, or something…
